  1. Do research.
Always do your research before starting a new project. Before each project you should spend at least two hours looking for inspiration and find out more about the client. Doing this will help your design tremendously. The ideas will be flowing through your head and your creativity can really come alive. In return, your client will be pleased that you have understood their needs and given them a beautiful design.

  1. Check things twice.
Double-checking your work is very important no matter what level designer you are. Before you send things to the client, you want to make sure that everything is perfect. Even if you have gone over it already, it doesn’t hurt to look it over one more time. You never know what you are going to catch that you didn’t see before. If you are someone who has trouble spotting mistakes, ask someone else to look over your work. Having a fresh pair of eyes on a project is never a bad thing and can help you avoid errors that you have made.

  1. Keep learning.
Just because you have graduated does not mean that the learning stops. Designers who continue to learn continue to grow. One of the best tools to help designer learn outside the classroom are tutorials. Tutorials are a great way to learn new skills. The videos make learning simple with visual, step-by-step instructions. Unlike lectures in a classroom, you can stop and rewind as much as you would like until you get it right. Don’t limit your design because you don’t know how to do something. Learn new skills and take your designs to the next level. You will be surprised at all the amazing things you can do in Adobe CC that you never knew before.

  1. Trust your skills.
One of the hardest things for young designers to do is trust their own skills. As artists, we like to critique our work to no end. Learning to trust you skills and knowledge can really benefit you as a designer and give you the confidence you need to succeed. An eye for design is something we are born with. We have the natural talent as well as education. Once we learn to trust our skills and our designs good things will come. And remember, no one is as big of a critic as you are.

  1. Ask for help.
Sometimes as designers we get into creative blocks and cannot seem to think. When this happens it is always a good idea to ask for help. Co-workers all share a common goal and can help in many ways. You should never feel embarrassed to ask for their help. Brainstorming with co-workers can help spark ideas you have never had before. The co-workers don’t have to be on the creative team either. Good ideas can come from anyone!
It is also good to ask for help is when you are in over your head. If you are feeling overwhelmed don’t be afraid to ask for help. It will not make you look like you can’t get your work done. It will make you look responsible for realizing you can’t and getting help to finish the project by the deadline. Asking for help when needed will not only make your boss happy, but most importantly, it will make the client happy.
