Designing a new website takes a lot of planning and consideration on both your part and that of the developer. You have to pick the color scheme, what you want on your menu, and the content that will be added, including pictures, videos and copy. It’s a lot. But there’s one thing you must ask yourself before you get into any of this…

Do you want a subscription website or a custom website?

Now I know you might be thinking something along the lines of:

So we’ll back up a step.

What’s a subscription website? How does it differ from a custom website?

Let me break it down for you.

Subscription Websites

Subscription websites are built using already-existing templates in a website development site – for us, that means using themes that already exist in WordPress. Your site is built based on these themes, with your personal information and media added in.

Subscription sites are generally much cheaper and work very well for small businesses that don’t have a huge budget to spend on the creation of their website. Though there are variations you can make within the themes used, these websites are fairly constrained to the themes they’re made in.

Custom Websites

Custom websites are just that – completely custom. They are designed specifically to cater to your needs. These sites are built from scratch using a design tool, such as Photoshop, then converted into a theme to create the website.

Custom sites are more expensive and do take longer to finish, but for those looking to maximize the impact of their website they are the perfect choice. Individualized design ensures that you get the features and look you want from your website.
